Why I Do What I Do

April 17, 2018  •  Leave a Comment

I started off photography doing only posed sessions – because that’s what I thought everyone wanted.  I found myself (and my clients) being drawn to the more candid photos I took.  I began to hear phrases such as: “I just love the one when we’re laughing together!”, “This photo – this [expression] is my girls!”, or “This one is my favorite – I didn’t even know you were taking the picture!”

And then the light bulb went off.  Documentary  and Lifestyle photography was, and is, where my heart lies, and family films is a beautiful extension of this love.

As a stay at home mom and photographer, I am “that person.”  The person who takes (what some people say is too many) pictures of anything and everything – and I wear that badge proudly!  As cliché as it is to say – time FLIES!  One minute you’re graduating, and then it’s your ten year reunion.  You’re walking down the aisle, next you’re clinking your glasses at your 20th wedding anniversary.  Or how about the moment you find out you’re pregnant, and then you turn around and realize your baby is walking, talking, and refusing to be snuggled?!

I know life can change quickly, and recognize that it is worth documenting, no matter what chapter of our life story we’re on.  The stages in our journey shape us to be the people we are, and by preserving these memories in photos, we’ll be able to share our experiences and stories with others.

I seek out real experiences – the real love and joy that you experience on a daily basis.  My photographs show people at their best, and that doesn’t mean they’re always dressed up and smiling perfectly.  It means I truly capture feelings and personalities in my art and take pride in presenting more than pretty faces in my images.

Life isn’t all posed smiles and matching outfits - it’s the “regular” moments in-between that make us who we are.  It’s about spending time with the people we love doing the things that mean the most to us.  These are the moments I want to capture for you.  The moments too many people take for granted, but will want to remember in the years to come, and will want to share now and for generations to come.

My favorite thing to do is take everyday moments and turn them into something extraordinary - expressing them in a way that is extra beautiful.

Let me be “that person” for you.  I will provide you with honest images that showcase the bond you share with your family.  Photos that capture your relationships and preserve the now, because we both know how fast the present becomes the past.
