A Year to Remember

February 09, 2016  •  Leave a Comment

2009 was a big year for me.  I moved to Madison (following my college boyfriend, despite some friends’ advice of waiting for the ring), got engaged (I guess it worked out ;)), got my first professional job out of college, and bought our first house.  Yep, I think it’s safe to say a lot of things changed that year!  Half of it was a whirl-wind of wedding decisions, packing and unpacking, late nights, early mornings, paperwork, and trying to squeeze in time to relax and hang out with friends.

Even as a lover of photography, I wasn’t documenting my life the way I would have liked.

Yes, I have photos of my husband and I together (we had mastered the selfie WAY before the front facing camera!), and a decent amount of us posing with our friends at the 4th of July BBQ or the yearly Halloween Party.

What I don’t have are pictures of everything that happened in-between.  How fun it was to FINALLY live with my boyfriend sans roommates – hanging out – just the two of us in our small apartment after work.  Or the Saturdays we regularly spent with friends – playing games and laughing until our stomachs hurt.  I don’t have pictures of those moments, and while I can picture some quite clearly in my mind, other memories are already starting to fade.

I wish I would have realized how priceless those times were as they were happening.  How much those moments would shape my future and how those people in my life would change me.

I would have taken more pictures.  I would have documented my whole story, not just the holidays and parties.

How nice would it be if someone were to take on the challenge of doing just that – telling the story of your year?

(This is where I raise my hand and shout, “Me, me, me!!”)

Not only would you have the photos you want – but you’d actually be IN them!  LIVING the moments you want to remember, not standing off to the side trying to portray your feelings via the faces of everyone else in the room.

I’ve put together a package to do just that – capture your year.

What’s your favorite way to spend a Saturday morning?  Who makes you laugh the hardest?  What changes most about your son in the first six months?  What does your family routine look like with each season?  Let’s chat, brainstorm, and set up times to showcase your world.

No matter what year of your journey you’re in, it’s a year to remember.

1 - You’re having a baby, but he/she isn’t here yet!

This photo session will be entirely of you sleeping – because you won’t be able to do that for a long time. J  Kidding!!  BUT – take a moment to think of the things in your life right now that will change drastically after welcoming the new addition to your family.  Do you love those nights cooking together with your husband/wife?  Or those lazy weekend mornings drinking coffee together and planning your day?  What about your nights with friends?  The loud, crazy people in your life you’ve chosen as family – how much fun do you have with them!?  Wouldn’t it be great to have these moments to look back on in a few months/years?  A way to say, “Look at what life was like before kids!”  Pick one (or more!) of these things to document, and that would be the first session.

The next session in your year would be when the baby comes.  This could be a birth session, and/or a newborn session at home.  You’re going to be busy enough dealing with a new baby, let me worry about documenting your story.  I take pride in finding beauty in details, as well as providing you with images that show the joy and love you’re feeling in the moment.  Don’t worry about posing – just enjoy that little one!

The following sessions would be at increments we can discuss during our brainstorming session – perhaps we’d do photos again every three months.  This would not only show the changes in your child as he/she is growing, but also how the routines of your family are changing – and how the seasons affect what you do together.  How perfect would it be to have photographs of your transition from life before baby to your first few months as a family?!

2 – We already have a newborn!

Great!  Let’s get started!

I would imagine this package being very similar to last part of the one above.  I’d take photos of your family every few months, capturing your journey through the seasons and turning your daily life into photos that tell the story of your family during your baby’s first year.  Weather it’s your first child or your 7th – nothing will ever be the same!  Maybe you want to capture the mornings of Mom and Dad sharing some tummy time with their first born, or big sister reading to her little brother before he goes to bed.  I’ll capture your family’s personalities and routines in a unique way that is real and allows you to take a step back and appreciate what you have.

3 – Other types of families!

Let’s face it, no matter how old you are, or at what stage you are in life – it’s special, and it’s ever-changing.  Session ideas could include: a spring evening cooking dinner together, a family walk through your neighborhood, regular Saturday trips to the Farmers Market, summer boat rides, raking leaves and then jumping in the piles (I’m not the only one that still does that – right?!), really, the possibilities are endless.  Wherever your story takes place – that’s where we’ll be.

There is ALWAYS a story worth documenting.

There’s beauty in the everyday.  In the quiet.  In the noisy.  In the boring.  In the crazy.

I’m so excited to offer this new photography package – a fully documented year!  You'll receive a discount on each session, as well as a custom designed album showcasing your favorite photos from the year, a $225 value, absolutely free!!  We’ll brainstorm and talk together before the session, so you’ll feel comfortable and confident in my abilities to capture what is important to you, and the details you want to be told through my photos.

Are you ready?!
